Sandford Award for Heritage Educationtraditional farms you tube

Since 1982, the Heritage Education Trust has recognised and promoted quality education in Historic Houses, Castles, Gardens, Museums, Galleries, Cathedrals and other Places of Worship. The Heritage Education Trust welcomes the opportunity for children to get out of the usual classroom setting in order to explore their heritage.

The Sandford Award Scheme currently encompassed 200 historic sites within the United Kingdom and Ireland. The Award is granted for a period of five years and each site must then reapply to be assessed by a panel of independent judges.

Muckross Traditional Farms first received the Sandford Award in November 2003 for hosting Féile Chultúir Chiarraí (Festival of Kerry Culture). It was the first time this prestigious award was granted outside the UK. Muckross Traditional Farms received the Award, for a second time, in 2008.

Féile Chultúir Chiarraí (Festival of Kerry Culture) is an annual five-day event, which consists of a series of workshops for Primary School children. The staff of Muckross Research Library work closely with the staff of Muckross Traditional Farms in organising and running this event.
